’ Heinz Rohrer, of Thorens, told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine: ‘It takes no more than five minutes from opening the box to playing the first,

excellent- sounding piece of music from a vinyl record, because the TD 203 has the sound quality of the award-winning,

highly acclaimed TD 309, TD 209 and TD 206 models written in its DNA. And, like its siblings, it was developed Germany.’

The TD203’s d.c. servo-motor is decoupled from the plinth by means of rubber elements, and the platter bearing is made from bronze.

According to Thorens, belt tension can be easily re-adjusted if required, the phono cartridge changed in a matter of minutes,

and the platter’s rotational speed fine-tuned by simply turning a screw, at either 33.33 or 45rpm.

Despite being supplied ‘ready to roll’, the TD 203 can also be fine-tuned. The tonearm’s height can be adjusted to alter the vertical tracking angle,

and cartridge azimuth is also adjustable, according to Rohrer, who also says that the TP 82 uni-pivot tonearm is first in this price class.

The TP 82 bearing uses a carbide tip and five tiny ball-bearing.

‘This configuration allows the arm to move freely and without friction in both the vertical and the horizontal planes while providing an extremely high degree of stability.

This, again, also ensures longevity,’ said Rohrer. It’s fitted with a Thorens TAS 257 moving-magnet phono cartridge.

Every TD 203 comes with a cartridge alignment protractor, stylus gauge and Perspex dust cover and is available in high-gloss red, black or white.
